Reknowned Poet E. Ethelbert Miller Reads His Poem, “Words”

We have a new project to collect video performances of contributors, reading their contributions to Voices of the Grieving Heart.

The first video comes from E. Ethelbert Miller, who reads his poem, Words. Ethelbert is a renowned writer and literary activist whose poetry has been translated into nearly a dozen languages. He is a two-time Fulbright Senior Specialist Program Fellow to Israel and has taught at several universities. He also hosts a weekly radio show in the Washington, DC area. His 2005 poem honoring HIV/AIDS caregivers, We Embrace, is engraved on the pavement surrounding a circular bench outside the Dupont Circle Metro station in Washington, DC. I’m grateful to him for his support of this project.

My Interview on the Grief Dreams Podcast is Live!

Have you ever had someone who died appear in one of your dreams? Joshua Black, PhD did his dissertation on the topic of grief dreams. In this podcast, we spoke about grief, about my book “Voices of the Grieving Heart,” and especially about several dreams I had in which my late wife appeared and checked in on me. One of those dreams became a poem, called “Resurrection,” which appears in the book. In the chapter called “The Garden of Dreams,” other contributors also wrote about their grief dreams.

You can listen here, or wherever you like to get your podcasts.

Did You Miss the Book Launch?

We have a received a LOT of great feedback about the book launch. One attendee, someone who doesn’t normally write poetry, was even inspired to write her own poem about grieving the death of her husband.

If you missed the live event, you can watch it right here.

What a Fantastic Book Launch!

Over 100 people showed up for the launch of Voices of the Grieving Heart! Contributors, family, friends, friends of family, friends of contributors—you get the idea. Kudos to Matthew Félix for doing a magnificent job of managing time and details as well as asking Mike good questions. Mike read 3 of his poems from the book and 2 other contributors, Mara Teitel Sheade and Elizabeth McMahon, read theirs. John Fox also spoke for a few minutes.

The event was record and we’ll post the link as soon as we have it. We plan to organize additional events, so stay tuned!
