Mike Bernhardt

Editor • Poet • Travel Writer

Mike Bernhardt is an award-winning writer whose work has appeared in many print and online publications including DIVER Magazine, Journey Beyond Travel, GeoEx Travel, Hidden Compass, and others.

He grew up in New York City. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area when he was nineteen and dropped his Manhattan accent almost overnight. He met his first wife, Susan, in 1983.

Susan died in 1991. In the years that followed, Mike remarried, raised a son with his second wife, Yvonne, and published the first and second editions of Voices of the Grieving Heart, and retired from an IT career. Mike volunteers as a peer grief support volunteer and is a Certified Grief Educator. He has spoken to groups, on radio, and on podcasts to discuss this book, his experience of grief, and how poetry can help us to express the inexpressible.

Mike has also won several awards for his travel essays, in which he shares his experience of people and cultures rather than what he did or where he stayed.

Mike and Yvonne reside in the San Francisco Bay Area with their two cats.
